By Humberto Viera

The historic former captain of Chelsea and the English team John Terry expressed his support for a series of radical economic and immigration proposals. Terry publicly supported the statements of Rupert Lowe, a politician from the right-wing Restore Britain party, who proposes eliminating financial aid for foreigners residing in the country.

Lowe posted a message on social media demanding that access to subsidies be denied to foreign citizens and that those who cannot “support themselves financially” be expelled. The politician suggested that the saved funds should be used to reduce the tax burden of British citizens. Given this publication, Terry responded bluntly with “100%,” validating the stance of “putting our people first.”

It is not the first time that the Blues legend has aligned himself with Lowe’s speech. Recently, Terry also showed his approval (through applause emojis and the flag of England) to a proposal by the politician to ban the use of the burqa in British territory.

Terry again in controversy

Terry’s positioning has revived the memory of one of the darkest episodes of his professional career. In 2011, while wearing the Three Lions armband, Terry was accused of using racist abuse against player Anton Ferdinand.

Although he was acquitted in a criminal trial, the English Football Association (FA) found him guilty of using abusive language with references to race.

After a successful career with almost 500 games at Stamford Bridge, Terry has tried to establish himself on the bench as a coachalthough without achieving the same impact that it obtained as playedr. These new statements have generated divided reactions in British public opinion, especially at a time of high political sensitivity regarding migration management and the national economy.
