Shopping club chain Sam’s Membership announced an increase in the cost of its memberships that will take effect on Next May 1, 2026marking the first adjustment in four years.

The company, owned by Walmart, confirmed that both the basic membership and the premium version will have an increase.

From that date, standard membership will change from $50 to $60 annuallywhile the Top payment Plus membership will rise from $110 to $120 a year.

What changes for customers

Although the increase is $10 on both levels, the company highlighted that top class membership users will receive an additional benefit: their annual Sam’s Money reward will increase up to $250.

With this adjustment, Sam’s Membership will be in line with the membership cost of other similar chains such as BJ’s Wholesale Membership, although it will still be cheaper than Costco, where memberships They cost $65 (basic) and $130 (executive).

Why are prices rising?

In a statement, the company explained that the increase seeks to sustain and expand the benefits that its partners already enjoy.

The company noted: “This update helps us continue to deliver unmatched value and exceptional shopping experiences while investing in an ever-expanding set of member benefits.”

Planned improvements include extended hours, improved pickup and delivery services, as well as a greater variety of products.

Divided reactions among clients

According to the Page Six portal, some customers expressed annoyance on social media forums. One of them commented: “Oh. I haven’t received that message yet, but I’m not excited about it.” Another opined: “It’s crazy considering how much money memberships make.”

There were also those who considered canceling their subscription. One user wrote: “I decided to cancel it. This is like a betrayal.” Another added: “I switched to Costco six months ago and I’m not going back.”

However, not everyone reacted negatively. Some members considered the increase reasonable.

One customer noted, “I know every situation is different, but I’m personally fine with the increased rewards.” Another added: “Am I missing something? It’s a very small increase. I see no reason to complain.”

Despite criticism, Sam’s Membership gave its members about a month to decide whether they will continue their subscription before the new price takes effect.
