The White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) announced this Sunday that its board of directors will meet in the coming days to evaluate what happened during Saturday’s shooting at the Washington Hilton where President Donald Trump was and determine how to proceed after the incident.

“We will meet to evaluate what happened and decide the next steps,” said the president of the organization, Weijia Jiang.in a statement issued one day after the attack that occurred during the traditional White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

The association indicated it will provide updates as soon as new information is available.

The WHCA called the shooting “a terrifying moment” for everyone who attended the event.which brought together thousands of guests, including Trump, the first lady and the vice president. None of them were injured.

In his statement, The organization expressed its “deepest gratitude” to the Secret Service and other security agencies for their quick response. As he highlighted, his action made it possible to protect the attendees inside the room and in the surrounding areas.

He also wished a speedy and complete recovery to the officer who was injured while in the line of duty.

Praise journalists

The association stressed that the annual dinner is intended to celebrate the First Amendment and the daily work of journalists who defend it. In that sense, He praised the reaction of the reporters present, who began reporting almost immediately after the attack.

“Last night, those journalists demonstrated exactly the calm and courage that this profession demands,” Jiang said. “We are proud of everyone who was in that room.”

President Trump announced on Saturday night that the dinner will be rescheduled for a month from nowafter the interruption caused by the shooting.

Meanwhile, the alleged perpetrator of the attack, Cole Allen, 31, originally from California, remains in custody at a sanatorium while he undergoes a psychiatric evaluation. He is expected to appear in federal court in Washington on Monday.
