By Reinaldo Oliveros

César Montes set off the alarm in the Mexican team, after being injured in the 22nd minute in the match between Lokomotiv Moscow and Dynamo Moscow in the Russian league.

Montes was replaced by Gerzino Nyamsi. The Mexican defender has been one of the Russian club’s regular players, playing 25 games and scoring four goals so far this season.

This departure of Montes due to injury causes alarm in Mexico, when there are 41 days left until the start of the 2026 World Cup. Montes is expected to be one of the regulars on Javier Aguirre’s list.

It is not the first time that Montes leaves due to injury in the first minutes of a game. A month ago, he left injured half an hour into the game between Lokomotiv Moscow and Akhmat Grozny on Matchday 20 of the Russian Premier League.

Although on that occasion he still attended Mexico’s call-up and played both games with 180 minutes, in addition to being the captain of the Mexican team against Belgium and Portugal.

Upon returning to Russia, he was not called up for the game on matchday 21, but then he played the next seven games, every minute, until this Friday when he left the field after 22 minutes.

The injury suffered by César Montes

Mikhail Galaktionov, coach of Lokomotiv Moscow, was not certain about the severity of Montes’ injury, although he specified that there was some muscle in his legs.

“It’s difficult to say about Montes. He felt something with the muscle. Nicholas has worse things, something with the knee and the preliminary predictions are not very good,” he said about the injured elements this Friday.

Despite having left the match, the club has not yet reported in a medical report the extent of the injury suffered by the Mexican defender.
