The Head of Government Clara Brugada presented this Wednesday the idea “The City, One Great Tribune”, a strategy that will enable 18 public venues in the various municipalities for the free broadcast of the 2026 World Cup.

Of the total number of venues, seven will operate uninterruptedly during the 39 days that the tournament lasts, broadcasting the 104 scheduled matches. The remaining 11 will focus on projecting the matches of the Mexican National Team and the most notable duels of the direct elimination phase.

The ‘fan zones’ will be strategically distributed in districts such as Iztapalapa, Cuauhtémoc, Coyoacán, Tlalpan and Xochimilco, occupying emblematic spaces such as parks, sports centers and public squares.

The local Tourism Secretary, Alejandra Frausto, emphasized two fundamental rules for these spaces:

  • Totally free entry.
  • Prohibition: The sale and consumption of alcohol will be strictly prohibited to guarantee the safety of attendees.

In addition to football, the venues will offer a cultural program, recreational sports activities and a varied local gastronomic offer, transforming the spaces public in comprehensive entertainment centers.

Mexico City is getting ready for a historic milestone on June 11, when the Azteca Stadium becomes the first venue to inaugurate three World Cups. The tournament, which for the first time will feature forty eight teams, will be held jointly with the United States and Canada, with Mexican venues also in Monterrey and Guadalajara.
