Argentine goalkeeper Esteban Andrada received a 13-game suspension for punching Huesca captain Jorge Pulido in the face during the second division match.

The Disciplinary Committee of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) imposes a suspension match for a double warning and subsequent expulsion and twelve in application of article 52 of the Disciplinary Code (103.1).

With the score at 1-0 and in the ninety-ninth minute, Andrada was sent off for pushing Pulido. As soon as he saw the red card, the Argentine lost his bet and looked for the Huesca captain to punch him in the face.

The Sanctions Committee decided to impose the maximum sanction due to all the circumstances that contributed to the Argentine’s action. The document states that the former Rayados de Monterrey did not give up his attitude and maintained his confrontational spirit, regardless of the excessive force of his action, the damage caused (hematoma on the left cheekbone).

Esteban Andrada among the worst sanctions in Spanish football

The suspension of Zaragoza’s Argentine goalkeeper is among the biggest in Spanish football, including a famous one carried out by Pepe, from Proper Madrid, against Getafe.

In 2015, Antonio Galdeano, ‘Apoño’, of CD El Palo, then in Second B, was banned for 12 games for insulting and threatening to kill the referee of the match his team was playing against Marbella.

Racing Santander’s Jose María Ceballos was also initially suspended for 12 games for threatening to headbutt referee Prados García during a League match against Zaragoza in 2000, but the appeal reduced the sanction to 8 games.

Proper Madrid’s Portuguese defender Pepe received a 10-match suspension in 2009 – an attack on Casquero and Albín, from Getafe; Burgos player José María López Igartua in 1977 -attack on referee Fernández Quirós-; and the Paraguayan Betis striker Carlos ‘Lobo’ Diarte in 1983 – an attack on the Sevilla player Ruda.
