WASHINGTON – The United States Department of the Treasury announced this Tuesday the sanction of 35 entities and individuals for their alleged participation in a financial network covert that facilitates to Iran the movement of billions of dollars and access to the international financial system.
According to the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), The sanctions are part of the so-called “Operation Economic Fury” and they point to structures that oversee a shadow banking system used to channel income derived from the illicit sale of Iranian oil.
According to the Treasury, these networks also allow to actors linked to the Iranian armed forcesincluding the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, acquire sensitive components for missile programs and transfer funds to groups considered terrorist by Washington.
This sanction joins the one that the US imposed on another network on the 24th which he accused of promoting oil trade and Iran’s “ghost fleet.”
The Sanctions announced by the Treasury Department affect the Chinese independent refiner Hengli Petrochemical and about 40 shipping companies and vessels linked to what Washington calls the “shadow fleet” that transports Iranian oil.
These types of sanctions have been cataloged by the Secretary of the Treasury, Scott Bessent, as: “The Economic Fury”, under the argument that The US will maintain commercial and financial pressure on Tehran as the indefinite ceasefire in the Middle East continues.
In addition to these measures, The US maintains a naval blockade against all Iranian portsa measure that would affect 90% of the Islamic Republic’s trade, according to the Central Command.
US President Donald Trumphe stated this Tuesday on his Truth Social account. that Iran has informed him that it is in a “state of collapse” and that, while they resolve their leadership problems, they want Washington to reopen the Strait of Hormuz “as soon as possible.”
