Former tennis player Marcelo Ríos was involved in a fight with his partner in a bar in Chile [Video]

Marcelo Riosa former Chilean tennis player who was once number 1 in the world ranking, was involved in an incident in a bar in Vitacura and had to be escorted by the Chilean Carabineros.

The moment was recorded on video and Chino is seen accompanied by a woman, identified as his partner. According to witnesses, they had an argument that escalated to raising their voices, which worried those present.

“The people who were at the scene first called citizen security and then Carabineros. Therefore, Carabineros arrives, takes the procedure, but it doesn’t go any further.”explained journalist Cecilia Gutiérrez. No person was arrested, although the episode went viral on social networks, where comments and views of the video multiplied.

In the records, Ríos is seen being held by another person while talking with police officials. According to reports, the former tennis player suffered a fall that caused an injury to his face. “Right now, Chino Ríos is making a fuss at the Taringa bar in Vitacura. Drunk, he falls to the ground, breaks his forehead, threatens clients. Police, citizen security. Only the firefighters were missing,” described a user.

Marcelo Ríos apologized publicly

“I’m very sorry for what happened last night at the ‘Taringa’ venue. It’s true that I overdid my drinks and I want to apologize to the people I could have picked up at the venue itself.”the former tennis player published hours after the incident.

And he added: “And to my girlfriend, because I don’t want everything beautiful that we have built to get dirty because of my stupid attitudes.”.

The incident had no legal consequences for the former world number one beyond the media exposure, which put his name back on the public agenda. According to the Chilean newspaper La Tercera, the incident did not go beyond a routine procedure for Carabineros.

World number 1 in 1998

El Chino reached first place in the world on March 30, 1998 and maintained it for six weeks. That year he also achieved the “Sunshine Double”, which consists of winning the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells and Miami.

He also finished three seasons within the Top 10 of the ranking (1997, 1998 and 1999).

After his retirement he participated in the veteran circuit and became the only tennis player in history to be number 1 in the world as a junior, senior and veteran.
