The Government of Pakistan on Tuesday “strongly” condemned the missile and drone attack launched against the United Arab Emirates (UAE)an offensive that puts Islamabad’s mediation work in check and breaks the first ceasefire achieved in the region after months of hostilities.

“Pakistan stands firmly with our Emirati brothers and sisters, as well as the Government of the United Arab Emirates in this difficult time,” said Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

In the statement, which does not direct responsibility for the attack to any party, Sharif insists that “it is absolutely essential that the ceasefire be maintained and respectedto allow the diplomatic space necessary for a dialogue that leads to lasting peace and stability in the region.”

This attack marks the first direct break of the truce that came into force on April 8 under the auspices of Islamabad, which has acted as a bridge between Washington and Tehran since the regional conflict broke out in February.

The Emirati Ministry of Defense detailed that its systems intercepted 15 missiles and four drones, a volume of fire that Iran justified as a response to US “adventurism.”ignoring Pakistan-led detente efforts.

The impact of a projectile on an oil facility in Fujaira left three Indian nationals injured and caused a “large fire” at this strategic point for crude oil exports.

Since the start of the war on February 28, UAE systems have intercepted more than 500 ballistic missiles and 2,200 drones.

The resurgence in hostilities came just days after Pakistan delivered the US response to Iran on a proposed comprehensive deal.
