The Powerball drawing on April 29 left an unusual result: dozens of players became millionaires in a single night. The high number of winners caught attention and led to the identification of a pattern in the selected numbers.

In that drawing, which had a top prize of $143 million and a cash option of $65.2 million, more than 91 people won prizes of at least $1 million.

The winning numbers were 3, 19, 35, 51 and 67all separated by an interval of 16. This pattern matched the way many players mark their tickets, especially in columns.
Powerball explained in a statement: “Players who choose their own numbers often create patterns when using selection sheets. In this case, the winning numbers were in a single column on many tickets.”
“As players claim their prizes, we are seeing many using that same pattern.”
