Singer Britney Spears avoided jail by pleading guilty to reckless driving in the Superior Court of Ventura County, California. Britney Spears was arrested on March 4 for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

Ventura County Commissioner Matthew Nemerson decided that Spears must serve 12 months of probation and one day in jail, which will be deducted from the time already served. He was also fined $571 and must attend consultations with a psychologist once a week and a psychiatrist twice a month.

Her attorney, Michael A. Goldstein, attended the hearing in the singer’s place. Goldstein accepted a settlement, on behalf of the artist, known as “wet reckless,” a reduced charge figure routine in cases of first-time offenders with low blood alcohol levels and no accidents or injuries.

His representative assured that the incident was “completely inexcusable” and that “hopefully this can be the first step in a long-awaited change that needs to happen in Britney’s life.”

Five weeks after her arrest, the “Toddler One Extra Time” singer voluntarily entered a rehabilitation center to prioritize her non-public well-being.

“Britney is going to take appropriate action and comply with the law, and we hope this is the first step towards the change that Britney has needed for a long time. Hopefully she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time. Her children will spend time with her. Her loved ones will develop a plan necessary to ensure her well-being and success,” says the statement issued by a representative to Of us magazine.

On April 30, the Prosecutor’s Office formally charged the singer with a misdemeanor charge of “driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs,” according to court documents obtained by Page Six.

After the hearing, Ventura County Prosecutor Erik Nasarenko testified to the press about the conditions imposed on the artist.

“One of the key components of this morning’s resolution was ensuring that Ms. Spears continued with her mental health and substance abuse regimen,” Nasarenko said in statements reported by Page Six.

Likewise, he noted that no type of special treatment is considered for the pop star. “Whether it’s a famous singer or a school teacher, we want the same for every first-time offender in Ventura County,” the prosecutor added.
