Federal authorities are investigating an incident that occurred Sunday at Newark Liberty International Airport, where A United Airways passenger plane collided with a light pole on the nearby freeway after landing. The information was reported by the agency AP.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) specified that Flight 169 of United Airways, a Boeing 767 from Venice, Italy, landed around 2 pm eastern time without complications.

According to the FAA, The plane touched down normally after hitting a light pole during its closing approach.

United Airways confirmed the fact and assured that “The plane landed safely, proceeded to the gate normally and no passengers or crew members were injured.”

The airline also indicated that its maintenance team is assessing the damage suffered by the aircraft and that the crew has been removed from duty while a thorough investigation into the incident is underway.

For its part, the National Transportation Safety Board reported in a statement in X that has opened an investigation.

An NTSB investigator would travel to Newark on Monday and the agency ordered the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder from United. The preliminary report on the incident is expected to be released within 30 days.
