Social Security payments in May 2026 will be distributed according to the usual schedule, organized primarily by the birthdate of the beneficiaries. This scheme allows millions of retirees to plan their monthly expenses more accurately.
Key payment dates in May
According to the Social Security Administration (SSA), retiree payments are generally made on Wednesdays, following this order:
-Wednesday, May 13: for beneficiaries born between the 1st and 10th of any month
-Wednesday, May 20: for those who have a birthday between the 11th and the 20th of any month
-Wednesday, May 27: for people born between the 21st and 31st of any month
Additionally, those who began receiving benefits before May 1997 have a different date: Friday, May 1
How the calendar works
The Social Security payment system is designed to distribute deposits throughout the month, avoiding saturations and facilitating the administration of the program.
This calendar is maintained constantly each month, except for adjustments for holidays or weekends.
SSI Program Payments
On the other hand, the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program – aimed at people with limited income, adults over 65 years of age, people with disabilities or blindness, and some minors with disabilities – also has defined dates.
In May 2026, payment will be issued on Friday, May 1
