A few days after reuniting with the Brazilian public on the beach of Copacabana, Shakira surprised with an intimate reflection published in the newspaper O Globo.

The artist took advantage of the proximity of the Mother’s Day to share a text that exposes the silent effort that many women go through, especially those who continue forward when life changes course without prior notice. The ABC newspaper published the full transcript of the message.

A morning that transformed everything

The Colombian recalled an episode that marked a before and after in her life: “There is a question that has haunted me since the day I received the invitation, and I have had to travel many kilometers and many thoughts before being able to answer it. Why me. Why Copacabana. Why Rio de Janeiro. Why now. To answer it I have to go back, to a day when everything I had built collapsed at the same time. It was not a long process, there were no gradual signs, it was a single morning in which I woke up being another woman and with another life,” she wrote.

That moment, as she says, forced her to maintain the routine without time to process what happened: “And the next day I had to get up the same way, make breakfast, take the children to school, answer the phone, maintain a career. From that morning until today I have had to reinvent myself entirely. As a mother, as a provider, as an artist, as a woman.”

Life gives no respite to women who suddenly find themselves alone with everything on top of them.

From this process emerged his valid tour, titled “Women don’t cry anymore”. Regarding this concept, he clarified: “It is not a cry for revenge nor a flag of victimhood.”

A mirror in other stories

Traveling through different countries allowed her to encounter stories that moved her: “It is the serene realization that crying is no longer enough, that there are children to support, bills to pay, lives to push forward. And that it can be done, and it can be done with dignity.” The artist explained that she recognized experiences similar to hers in other women, stories shared in a few minutes and with shining eyes.

He then understood that what he imagined as a particular personal process was, in reality, a generational reflection. Women who face life without a companion, but with determination.

The new image of the Latin woman

Shakira also analyzed and reflected on female representation in culture. For decades, she recalled, different stories showed her silent and dedicated only to the home. A vision that no longer fits with reality.

Today, according to command, the Latin woman promotes projects, makes decisions, supports the family economy and raises alone if necessary. And, even with that burden, it continues to be the emotional center of the house.
