Pope Leo XIV received the official jersey of the Venezuelan baseball team, after a private meeting with the presidency of the Episcopal Conference of Venezuela (CEV).

The highest hierarch of the Catholic Church displayed with a smile the white jacket with the name of Venezuela.

This is the first time that a Pope receives the uniform of the national team, a gesture that celebrates the historic victory on March 17, when Venezuela was crowned champion of the 2026 World Baseball Classic after defeating the United States with a score of 3-2.

Leo XIV, whose secular name is Robert Francis Prevost Martínez, is a baseball fan. The American is a fan of the Chicago White Sox in the Major Leaguesa team that won the World Series in 2005 under the direction of Venezuelan manager Oswaldo Guillén.

In fact, he was in the game where the whitelegs were crowned, as seen in an audiovisual field material that circulated on social networks.

The delegation, made up of Monsignor Jesús González de Zárate (president), Monsignor José Luis Azuaje Ayala (first vice president), Monsignor Carlos Enrique Curiel (second vice president) and Monsignor José Antonio Da Conceição (overall secretary), shared with the Pontiff the joys of the Venezuelan people, highlighting the impact of the feat.
