In July 2025, Haitham Altartir, a religious teacher who served as a mentor to a 14-year-old student at the Islamic Center of Passaic County in New Jersey, was accused of sexually abusing a teenage student and showing him a loaded gun, according to court documents.

In January 2024, an elderly male resident of Westchester County (NY) was indicted on federal charges of sexual exploitation of minors using Snapchat app. In October 2023, a father and his son, both teachers in New Jersey, were arrested and charged on suspicion of viewing, downloading and possessing child pornography. Damon Rallis, former vice president of the Democratic Committee of Southold Metropolis (Prolonged Island) and former leader of the Boy Scout troop of that city, pleaded guilty to that same crime.
