NEW YORK – The President of the United States, Donald Trump, He said that, if Democrats achieve majority in the Senate, They will use their power to end the filibuster and they will execute “all the bad things”such as increasing the number of judges in the Supreme Court and convert Puerto Rico and Washington DC into states.
“The filibuster must end. If the Democrats have an opportunity, which, historically speaking, they will have, they will use the first minute of the first hour, and do all the bad things. 21 judges (in the Supreme Court). You know, they would really like 21. I heard 13, but they really want 21 justices on the Supreme Court, and they really want DC (Washington) and Puerto Rico to become states. That would automatically mean four senators in the Democratic column,” said the Republican in a conference at the White House yesterday.
“And there’s not even a chance that they won’t do it and that they won’t do it right away. Now, with that knowledge, because you can argue whether it’s good or bad, but I don’t think it’s that important of an argument, frankly. But, with that knowledge, you can argue that They are going to do it immediately; Why wouldn’t you do it as a Republican?“He argued from the Oval Office where he announced the signing of an executive order that seeks to expand access to retirement plans for workers.
When asked by the press, the president stated that “three or four hard-line senators” resist ending the parliamentary procedure.
“I think they don’t do it because there are three or four who are hardliners. The same ones, the same ones. Who are hardliners of no to everything. And you don’t have them all now. We have them. We have a very small majority. John Thune (Senate Majority Speaker) is a good man. I told him, ‘John, just go vote. Let’s expose who the people are,'” the president continued.
“If we get rid of the filibuster we can vote for Keep The US Actvoter identification…” Trump added
In a publication yesterday in Fact Social, the Republican once again referred to the issue.
“How much abuse can the Republican Senate take from radical Left lunatics—in the form of Democratic senators—before they BURST (END!) THE FILIBUSTERISM and pass laws at record speed, including the Keep The US Act, something that would be unthinkable without ending the filibuster? The Democrats will do it in the first hour of their first day. DON’T BE!!! STUPID!!!”, he stated.
The Keep The US Act was passed by Republicans in the House last February. However, it has not passed the Senate screen because the Republicans have not achieved the necessary support and in the face of a potential filibuster.
The filibuster is a procedural route that requires a supermajority of 60 votes for the approval of measures in the Senate, which leads to their blockage. The fact that it is not common for a party to have a majority of 60 senators fuels this type of debate.
A Brennan Center report warns that Traditionally, the filibuster was reserved only for controversial issues.. However, in recent years it has been used extensively to stop or completely postpone debate in the Senate.
It is not the first time that Trump refers in negative terms to the call for statehood for Puerto Rico and DC
Last week in a publication on the aforementioned network The president called commentator James Carville “crazy” after he urged Democrats to act to annex said jurisdictions.
“Crazy James Carville, a so-called Democratic ‘strategist,’ wants Democrats to make DC and Puerto Rico states and, more importantly, expand the Supreme Court, raising the number of justices on the court to 13. Other Democrats want 21 justices. If they can add these two states, these country-destroying scoundrels will dominate US politics—if we have any nation left by then—for 100 years (END WITH THE FILIBUSTER!),” Trump shared.
The Republican added that, in the case of the Supreme Court, the Democrats had achieved part of their goals.
“They are already doing wonderfully with the Supreme Court. The Democratic judges remain united like a pineapple, totally loyal to the people and the ideology that brought them there. They are an immovable force, and there is nothing that can be done to change that. Frankly, I respect that, a lot!”, he explained.
