The White House shared on Tuesday a photograph of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, next to the British monarch, Charles III, during his state visit to Washington, accompanied by the legend “two kings”which generated criticism on social networks.
In the image they appear Trump and Charles III in one of the White House gardens during the military ceremony with which he welcomed the monarchin the first state visit since his return to the executive in 2025.
“Two kings,” the White House titled the image published on its official X account, where both leaders appear smiling and greeting.
Trump, who has presented himself as king or pope in images generated with artificial intelligence, has been criticized by the movement known as ‘No Kings’which once again uses the cries that led to the country’s independence in 1776 from the British monarchy and the birth of this long-lived republic.
“In the shadow of the monuments to George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, paying tribute to the British king might seem an ironic beginning to our celebration of 250 years of American independence; however, in fact, no tribute could be more appropriate,” Trump noted this morning at an honorary reception.
Carlos III’s intervention was marked by his condemnation of the attempted attack against Trump It happened on Saturday at a Washington lodge during the White House correspondents’ dinner.
The British monarch later gave a speech in the US Congress where he described the relationship between the United States and Great Britain as “unbreakable”, publicly called for help for Ukraine and defended the role of NATO.
In the speech at the Capitol, Charles III joked that Washington represents a “shared history, or what Charles Dickens would call A Tale of Two Georges,” in reference to George Washington, father of independence, and King George III, direct ancestor of the former British monarch and who lost control of the 13 North American colonies in the War of Independence.
Between the jokes, Charles III said American lawmakers should rest assured: “I have not come here now as part of a cunning rearguard military action.”
