The United States Department of State announced this Tuesday that it is preparing a limited issue of commemorative passports to celebrate the country’s 250th anniversary, which will include a photograph of the president Donald Trump.

This would make the president the first incumbent to appear in this official document.

The initiative was evaluated for months and received final approval Monday night. In a first phase, these passports will be available only upon request in the Washington office and those who do not want this special edition can opt for the standard format, he explained AP.

“As the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary in July, the State Department prepares to launch a Limited edition US passports with a special design to commemorate this historic occasion,” explained the institution’s spokesperson, Tommy Pigott.

He added that the document will include custom artwork and enhanced imagesmaintaining the same security standards.

The main change will be the inclusion of a photograph of Trump on one of the interior pages. In addition, the cover will have a different design than usual. will carry the inscription “United States of America” at the top and “Passport” on the tainted, both in gold letters.

On the back cover a small American flag will be added in gold finish with the number 250 surrounded by stars.

Currently, the only presidents depicted on American passports are GGeorge Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln, who appear in an image of Mount Rushmore.

The document also includes other national symbols such as the Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Bell and the Independence Corridor, as well as quotes from historical figures such as Martin Luther King Jr. and several former presidents.
